About

Hey,

You’ve found it, good on ya! My little slice of heaven on the internet, this place that I call home. The place I come when I want to revel in the marvelousness that is the world. And to delight in the delightfulness that is my life.

I’m Smash, and I was born for optimism. I get up, and I kick the shit out of life every day. Right in the nuts!

I’m an unconventional convention. I’m an unflappable flap. I’m unimaginably imaginative. And I want to share it with you.

My blog is all about my quest to live an extraordinary life. Fuelled by nothing but heady optimism (and a pint or two), I seek out the little things that make me smile. The small wonders found in the mundane. The things that keep me going. I want to laugh. I want to have a good time. I want to write it all down, keep a record, so my booze-addled brain will never forget how great life can be.

I also like to party. A lot. Did I mention that?

So stick around if you feel like it, because it’s gunna be awesome. I can promise you that.

  2. It’s funny. I’ve said for years that I think the secret to happiness isn’t to find one big happy, or one person to make you happy, but to recognize, appreciate and string all the little happies that happen during the day together and make a habit of being happy. Of course when I say this, most people look at me like I’m crazy.

    • It’s always great to meet a fellow optimist! I couldn’t agree with you more on this point. You’re not crazy at all! If you’re too caught up in what you need to do or what you think you should have in order to be happy, you’ll miss out on all the great things happening around you every day.

We’ve got to enjoy the little things in life. Thanks for stopping by! You’ve certainly made my day.

  4. On a philosophical tip, they say that happiness isn’t a destination, it’s an attitude… and you’ve got that attitude in buckets! I’m not an optimist by nature, but hopefully this blog will inspire me to stop being such a whinger! 🙂

    • Thank you!
I’ve only got a finite amount of time, so I may as well be happy right? It’s not all roses though, and that’s when people like yourself, with a more pragmatic disposition, are needed. And life would be quite boring indeed if we were all wearing the same rose coloured glasses, bringing the same ideas to the table.

      • Good point! I was going to try and come up with a metaphor where I’m laying down the manure while others smell the roses, but I don’t need that kind of imagery this early in the morning…

  10. Hi. I just wanted to be sure to thank you for the follow, but more importantly to tell you how much I enjoy your blog! Couldn’t remember if I’d told you either one, so thought I’d better do both!

  11. Jays went back-to-back HR’s twice in this game against the Marlins! This will be our 8th win in a row and put us over 500 at 31-30. We’re only 4 games out of 1st place. I hope we finally make the playoffs. It’s been way too long since we’ve made the post season!

    • I’ve been watching avidly Gary! And I was getting very excited about our streak. But of course, the very game we need to win to set a record for ourselves and the damn Mets would be throwing strikeouts like it’s no big deal. Damn… that was disappointing. But time to start another streak up again, right?

      • Yes, we get the Mets back at our place today and tomorrow! The whole AL East shifted this week; unfortunately for us we slipped from 3rd to 4th. But we’re still only a couple games out. WHY OH WHY do we have to be in such a tough division?! Send us to the NL! lol. I never get to watch the Jays anymore; no stations show them anymore. They did in the 90’s when they were good, but now that they’re average AND in a different country doesn’t bode well for a Jays fan in FL. lol.

      • I know, we have the hardest division in all of baseball, it’s totally bogus. Even when the teams in our divisions aren’t doing well overall, they’re still a bitch to try and compete with!

      • I know it’s crazy and JUST AS SOON and the Yankees and Red Sox take a step back, freakin’ Baltimore and Tampa become great! There is ALWAYS a monster in the AL East! And these last few years, had we been in a different division our 81-81 records would probably be something like 90-95 Wins and 67-72 Losses.
